Today was the big day. It was my first trip to Lake Superior. As we drove up, I rolled my window down. I heard boat motors roaring, and small waves lapping at the shore. There were seagulls screaming, trying to find a fish. Two small girls were splashing and shrieking in the water. I stuck my head out of the window, and a mosquito or two buzzed in my ear.
We parked by the beautiful lake, and I ran up to the shore. There were so many things around me. A few lazy adults sat in yellow and white striped beach chairs, watching the children play. A lonely canoe was docked at the edge of the water. There were sticks and leaves floating above the surface of the glassy water.
I decided to go swimming. I put on my swimsuit and goggles and jumped in. Underneath, I saw mud and rocks. A shiny silver fish darted between my feet. It tickled so much that I tripped on something sharp. It was a tin can. I picked it up and realized that there was a small crab living inside of it. I put it back down beside a strand of dull seaweed. I swam back up to the surface to catch my breath. I will never forget that wonderful day at Lake Superior.

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays. I love smelling the cinnamon and spice. I love hearing the sweet sound of Christmas carols coming from a nearby iPod. When I look at the drifting snow floating down to the frozen ground, I can almost see the intricate patterns of each small snowflake. I step outside sometimes and feel the frosty air blowing harshly against my pink face. This time of year is truly special.
I see two little, brown headed girls, who are my sisters, dancing around the red and white, furry carpet by the Christmas tree. The grass green tree glistens with tiny, twinkling colored lights. My dad puts up a pure white snowman ornament on the tree. She wears a bright pink toboggan on her head that says “Baby’s 1st Christmas”. My mom is sitting on the black leather chair on the opposite side of the room with her snowflake pattern pajama pants on. She is snapping pictures of all of the exciting events. The whole room is filled with glee.
I hear the delighted, ringing laughter of my two sisters. It is a cheery sort of laughter; not the kind of laughter you hear after listening to a joke. There are pans clanging and crashing into each other. The sound is coming loud and clear from the kitchen down the short hallway. The icicles hanging outside are falling with a soft poof of snow. The bells hanging from the door jingle jangle with a nice, loud ringing. All of the sounds are merry and bright.
As I walk down the hall into the kitchen, I smell the warm apple cider bubbling on the stove. I smell the sweet smell of hot cocoa with sugary marshmallows. The gingerbread house sitting on the counter has a spicy scent that mingles with the yummy smell of icing and candies sitting elegantly on top of it. There are candies and chocolates piled up on the table in glass dishes; they smell heavenly.
Outside, the snow is falling slowly and I run out to catch it on my bare tongue. I pull on my knitted gray hat and breathe in the cold, frozen air. The warmth of my gloves makes me feel cozy, even though I am outside in the winter weather. I always dream of a white Christmas. That year, I got just what I asked for.

Love is an emotion that comes from your heart and soul. It is a deep, soft emotion. Love is not just warm and fuzzy, though. It is a way of living. If you didn’t have love, this sad and tired world would be crumbling. Love makes the earth spin round.
Love is sweet. It tastes like a strawberry sucker on your tongue. Love lets you feel compassion and tells you to take care of homeless and sick people. I know that sometimes it feels as if love is bitter, like a lemon, because you don’t want to do what it tells you to do. But trust me, once you do whatever sweet thing it tells you, you will feel happier than you have ever felt.
Love is a feeling. When you love somebody, you feel happy and excited. Your insides feel warm and your hands feel shaky. Your heart beats out loud, pounding in your chest and jumping through your shirt. Your mind is lost in a world of its own, swirling with the fact that somebody loves you. You want to jump with glee. It feels as if you are running through a meadow covered in morning dew. It is a fresh, ecstatic feeling.
Love is a thought. It brings bright, bubbling, new ideas from your mind. It makes your thoughts soar into a fairytale land of princes and princesses who fall in love. Your heart is as happy and light as it can be. Your head spins as you try to uncover the mystery of love.
Love is deep. You feel it when someone is hurt or sad. Love travels from the top of your heart to the bottom of your soul. It stretches around you like a cozy blanket. It envelops you with a soft, radiant glow. Love pushes its way onto all the people that surround you. Love makes you complete.
